Are you looking for a new summer soundtrack? Perhaps a song or two to dance around your apartment while socially distancing? Maybe you just are in the mood for some new, upbeat music. TeawhYB's new EP "What We Were" offers just that.

A high energy, playful, body of work that discusses personal experiences and goals. From songs that talk about love and relationships like "Controller 2" and "Sharpie" to just talking about the dream of having it all in "Cherry on Top". There is something for everyone on "What We Were".

TeawhYB is an up and coming artist from Eau Claire, WI with a knack for upbeat, feel good party music. He often promotes a positive lifestyle with the work he releases.

Before COVID-19, TeawhYB performed in Minneapolis, at Freakfest in Madison, WI, and was bound for SXSW before the nation was brought to its knees. Yet even though the world was on hold the same cannot be said for this hip-hop artist. He can be found on all social media and streaming platforms. Check him out on TikTok!

You can stream "What We Were" everywhere now, or just Spotify.

Pelham to release new single for Mental Health Awareness Month

5/21/2020

Comments

A powerful, uplifting message with an aggressive delivery. "fuck all these feelings" is a pop song about acknowledging the feelings and emotions (or lack thereof) associated with depression and mental illness and attempting to rise above them. Pelham has released several songs this year dealing with love, loss, and mental illness, and is continuing this trend for the month of May. With sounds similar to Jon Bellion, and LAUV, Pelham encapsulates the feelings that probably many are feeling in this age of social distancing.
Picture
"I wanted to release a song that said what I was feeling." Pelham said. "I started writing about the thoughts in my head, and at the end of the day I thought, 'Wow fuck all of these feelings', and the rest just fell out."

Pelham releases "fuck all these feelings" on May 29th. You can presave the song on Spotify through distrokid here.
Pelham has also released songs in association with Secondhand Hounds, Still Kickin, and the #LIVIN Foundation, which you can find on his Spotify page.

Russ Parrish aims to unite, in a world of distancing with "Together"

Comments

If you're from the Twin Cities area and you haven't heard of Russ Parrish yet, you must not get out much. You know, other than the fact that we are all not getting out much these days.
Parrish is a multi-award winning artist from Nashville, now residing in Minnesota. He won the Amateur Talent Competition at the State Fair several years ago.

Picture
Parrish released "Together" late April of 2020, a powerful song with an even more powerful message. Parrish uses this song to remind the listeners that in a world of isolation, we are all in this together. An inspiring message, accompanied by strong vocals, warm instrumentation, and musicality similar to NEEDTOBREATHE, and Ed Sheeran.

Be sure to check out the official music video for "Together" when it drops, and add it to your favorite folk, Spotify playlist.

Admiral fox releases new ep "Nowhere is Safe"

Picture
A hard rock, sonic, dreamscape. "Nowhere is Safe" is the evolution of Minneapolis based artist Admiral Fox in his journey from solo artist to full on local rockband.
In 2019, Admiral Fox released their studio debut album "Saint Cloud" with Meteor Base Productions. Dan DeMarco worked independently with MBP to release the LP. Now, a full band, "Nowhere is Safe" is a much welcomed celebration of collaboration between DeMarco and his band members.

DeMarco, originally from Iowa, has been largely welcomed by the Minneapolis community. From frequenting open mics, to playing at almost every local venue we can think of, he has made an impact, as well as a name for himself, and is definitely on the rise in the scene.

Once the scene is opened back up, and shows start again, be sure to attend one of Admiral Fox's shows to catch their electrifying performance.

"Nowhere is Safe" is available on all streaming platforms, including Spotify.

Our First Showcase.

We had our first ever showcase at the beginning of April. In a word, it went swimmingly. The room was packed, all the artists were on point, and everyone seemed to be enjoying their selves. Twin Cities Media came out to the show and wrote a lovely article about it, as well as took some amazing photos.

We have another showcase this month, it's actually in 4 days! We have Molly Conrad, Mike Saker, Ryan McDonald, and Dahlia Jones coming to perform. So cancel your plans! Unless your plans are to come to the Showcase, then don't cancel... please come.

If you are an artist, and you are interested in playing the showcase, you should come through! We'd love to meet you!

Who should you Hear - Jeff Krause

Recently, Jeff Krause put out an EP. If you haven't heard it, perhaps you should. Last month we took a look at Krause's intimate Tiny Desk Concert, and now we are listening to his record, "Naked & Hardhearted". A collection of 6 beautiful tracks, primarily acoustic guitar with some light accompaniment. Krause's poetry is intimate and beautiful. His storytelling is delicate and relatable. The instrumentation is clean, and very well produced, and the musicality is very deliberate.

Be sure to listen to Jeff Krause's EP, "Naked and Hardhearted" on Spotify and iTunes.

A little Desk Contest

Happy Easter everyone! With the month of March also being the submission time for NPR's tiny desk concert contest, we got to see many of Minnesota's local artists pull out all the stops in an attempt to showcase what it is about their music that is truly special.

We've compiled a list of some of our favorite videos, in no particular order, that we saw going around the interwebs. Don't worry, no Hobo Johnson.

Tucker Sterling Jensen - Delusions
Jensen showcases his solo, electric guitar storytelling with the assistance of three other incredible Minnesota artists. Lena Elizabeth, Laura Hugo, and Lydia Liza.

Laura Hugo - Not Even a Little Bit
We've seen Hugo perform this song at many an open mic as a solo acoustic track, but with the addition of Tucke
r Sterling Jensen (Bass), Rachelle LaNae (Vocals), Joe Peterson (Nord), Ben Peterson (Drums), and Eli Elstad (Guitar), it's not hard to see why this track made our list.
Jeff Krause - Nobody Else in the Room
Krause knows how to set a mood. With sincere vocals, telling a story about a love that could be better, Kruase touches all our hearts. The candles are a nice touch as well.
Freaque - Marriage in a Graveyard
This tune is a perfect example of storytelling with more than just the lyrics. The harmonies, and accompaniment make the words he sings that much stronger. Gabriel Rodrick and Izzy Buckner have composed a solemn masterpiece.

Who should you Hear - Jennie Lawless

Jennie Lawless released her debut solo EP "Two Songs" earlier this March. It's a combination of catchy synth hooks, addictive melodies, and her unique style. Best known as the front woman of the band Warehouse Eyes, Lawless is now out on her own to make her "clumsy folk songs, with a new edge" as she puts it. You can find her EP "Two Songs" on iTunes and Spotify!

Some of our favorite gear in our studio.

Why, Hello There!

You may be wondering what the point of this blog is for? It is mainly to update you all on not only what Meteor Base is doing as a company, but to give you all information about the music scene here in this lovely city.

This first month I'll mainly be talking about the plans for this blog, telling you about some cool artists to check out, let you all know about the show calendar, and what the company is up to.

We want to inform you all of the cool things happening in this city. I'm sure there are hundreds of places to find out the P!nk is playing the Armory, or Ed Sheeran is gonna be here in October, but what about the amazingly talented singer that's playing down the street? That's what we are here for.

Who you should Hear - Laura Hugo

Have you heard of Laura Hugo? If not you may be doing it wrong. The artist formerly known as "justcallmehugo", hails from the Navajo Reservation but lives here in the Twin Cities. Her poetic melodies put you in a trance that you can't help but relate to in some way. You can find Laura Hugo's latest single "Not Even a Little Bit," on Spotify, iTunes and Apple Music.

Show Calendar

Oh, yeah about that show calendar. Have you ever wanted to go out one night, but didn't want to spend too much money, or go see live music, but wanted to also support the local scene? Have you ever wanted to do that but didn't know where to go? Yeah, same.

So that's where this calendar comes into place. The idea behind it is local artists submit their shows, they get put on the calendar, and then it's all in one place! You'll be able to find all the local shows you'd need. As well as some other events like the open mic nights at New Bohemia in NE... that is put on by Meteor Base....

If you want to see the rest of the calendar, click here!

HIGHLIGHTS
Meteor Base Showcase - First Monday of every month.
Open Mic Nights - Tuesdays at moto-i and Fridays at New Bohemia in NE.
CYPHER SQUAD - Improv Hip-Hop open mic nights at HUGE Theater in Uptown.

What is Meteor Base Doing?

In a word: Lots.

We are making records, booking, hosting weekly open mics, hosting a monthly showcase, working on new content to release, and now this monthly blog! So possibly too much.

We are working with some new bands, artists, and other companies to put some things out. We are excited to show you all this amazing talent that we have managed to capture.

If you are interested in being involved in someway, send us an email, come to one of our events, say hi! We are always open, welcoming, and willing to listen. We can help musicians or artists put their ducks in a row, and then get them more ducks.

If you all wanted to share this post with your friends, check out our socials, and stay tuned, that would help immensely! There is so much more to come.
